Our Story
From the beginning stories have carried Alice de Sallow through the lows and highs of life whether it be reading stories of folktales or soft crime stories.
Alice childhood was based in the Northern Territory of Australia where the concept of summer and winter were foreign terms. Instead, six months of the year through the Wet Season there was suffocating humidity and bellowing cyclones. For the other six months of the year the dry season was welcomed as the land cracked open by the dry heat and in the cool nights central desert winds blew.
School holidays were spent with extended family in the southern states of Australia where the environment was completely different. Both of Alice’s grandmothers were short stocky tough women of Irish ancestry. Their strength of character and will of strong women can be found in many of the stories represented by Alice Sallow Publishing. Alice’s father's mother in particular encouraged her writing and often spoke fondly and proudly of the early stories Alice wrote as a child.
As a child, in the south of Australia, from the trees to the animals everything looked and sounded foreign. Even the waterways were different, the water always seemed so much colder and the fish were different sizes and colours.
When Alice was still in primary school, her family moved to Northern Ireland. Whilst there alongside the southwest winds she was swept up in stories of her ancestors and the myths and legends of the Celts. During this period of her childhood a spell was cast and a love for British folktales and travel has bewitched Alice to this day.
